Dr Emily Traer

Emily is a specialist anaesthetist at the Peter Mac Callum Cancer Centre and co-lead of the prehabiliation service. Following undergraduate studies in the US and UK, Emily graduated from the University of Bristol and completed basic surgical training with Royal College of Surgeons before joining the Oxford School of Anaesthesia, to train jointly in anaesthesia and intensive care at the John Radcliffe, Oxford under the Royal College of Anaesthetists, UK. 

In 2014 she moved to Melbourne and undertook fellowships in obstetrics, neuro/thoracic anaesthesia and perioperative medicine before becoming a fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and an honorary clinical lecturer in the Department of Critical Care, University of Melbourne. Having begun her training in colorectal surgery, her interests lie in major abdominal surgery, the effect of prehabilitation on perioperative complications and the patient’s experience of recovery.
