PEP endorsement

The NSW Health Model Scope of Clinical Practice for Pain Medicine which outlines the clinical scope of practice for public hospital specialists in NSW, has included specific references to the Procedures Endorsement Program (PEP) for the first time.

Applicants for credentialling in pain procedures in NSW public sector services will be expected to practise in accordance with PS11(PM) (the Clinical Care Standard for Procedures in Pain Medicine) and PEP endorsement in procedures will become the required qualification. If not endorsed by FPM, applicants will be required to “otherwise demonstrate appropriate training, experience and recency of practice” to a standard satisfactory to NSW Health, making FPM endorsement a much simpler and smoother way to meet the credentialling requirements.
 
Other jurisdictions and private sector providers are expected to follow the lead of NSW Health over the next few years, so FPM fellows with a procedural scope of practice are again encouraged to undertake the Practice Assessment Pathway and obtain their endorsement. Assessments in this pathway are taking up to three months to complete, so please take this into account when applying.
