FPM new fellow call for nominations and election

The call for nominations for the role of FPM new fellow board member, will be undertaken between 27 February and 12 March 2025. As per by-law 1.4, FPM new fellows who are within three years of admission to fellowship, via completion of the FPM training program, of the date on which nominations close, are eligible to nominate. Each nomination must be signed by the nominee and two fellows of the faculty as per bylaw 1.

Fellows considering nominating are encouraged to read the Board Member Attributes document and contact the FPM Dean or the Executive Director FPM to discuss the role’s commitment and responsibilities before nominating.

The nomination form and candidate profile, accompanied by a photograph, must be received by the Executive Director, Faculty of Pain Medicine, via email by 5pm (AEDT) on Wednesday 12 March 2025.

If more than one nomination is received, then the faculty will proceed to an election between 19 – 31 March 2025.

The elected new fellow board member is appointed for a two-year term, to commence at the FPM Annual Business Meeting in the year they are elected. The new fellow board member cannot be re-elected for additional terms as the new fellow board member but can be elected as regular board member.

What you need to know

Am I eligible to vote and/or stand for election?

All financial fellows of FPM who meet the conditions outlined in by-law 1 are eligible to stand for election, nominate a candidate, endorse a candidate's nomination and cast a vote.

For electoral purposes, honorary fellows are not considered to be members and are therefore ineligible to participate in any aspect of the election process.

When are the FPM Board elections held?

FPM Board elections are held annually. An election will be called if the number of nominated candidates exceeds any available positions, as per clause 1.2.4 of by-law 1.

The exact timing is determined by the FPM Annual Business Meeting, so it will vary slightly from year to year.

Can I vote for or stand as a new fellow board member?

Fellows who are within three years of admission to FPM fellowship by training and examination are eligible to nominate, stand, and vote for the position of new fellow board member.

How do I make a nomination?

We will directly email all members who are eligible to stand for election or nominate a candidate with details of the process. We will also announce the call for nominations via our key communications channels.

How do I vote?

If an election is called, details and advance notice will be given to all voting fellows via email.

During this pre-poll stage, we encourage members to check that their contact information is up-to-date to ensure they can access the ballot when the time comes. Fellows will be invited by email to vote for their preferred candidates during a specific period.

How does electronic voting work?

We use a secure third party electronic voting service called Election Runner to manage the FPM Board elections.

During the polling period you will be able to access candidate bios and statements and cast your vote. It's easy to use, and you can vote from any location on any device.

When are the results announced?

Once the ballot has been closed and results are known, all candidates will be contacted immediately by either the FPM dean or the faculty executive director to advise them of the result. The official announcement and appointments will be made during the next FPM Annual Business Meeting.
