The 2024 FPM Spring meeting will be held at the Pullman Auckland Hotel, Corner Waterloo Quadrant & Princes Street, Auckland 1010, New Zealand.

The meeting has the following workshops on offer including emergency response activities to fulfill your continuing professional development (CPD) requirements. Please note, the below workshops will be held onsite at the Pullman Auckland.

SOT workshop
This annual afternoon workshop is aimed at FPM Supervisors of Training and Practice Development Stage Supervisors. Topics for discussion will include an update on the assessment review and discussion around the new ePortfolio.

Acute severe behaviour disturbance workshop
Acute severe behavioural disturbance (ASBD) is an umbrella term referring to various conditions of medical emergency where a person behaves in a manner that may put themselves or others at risk. In this workshop we will address 3 scenarios that anaesthetist and pain physicians may potentially encounter: clinic, acute medical care and emergence delirium. We will use small videos to help emersion and hoping it contributes to a vivid group discussion!

Opioid-Induced Ventilatory Impairment (OIVI) workshop
This workshop will focus on factors which may increase the risk of OIVI; discuss multiple cases, aiming to identify possible factors which might have increased the risk and ways to reduce risk; discuss changes that might be needed in an attendee’s institution to help them meet recent national standards including opioid prescribing and the development of ‘track and trigger’ systems aiming to improve detection and subsequent management of OIVI; and discuss patient and carer education, including after discharge.

Polish your proposal workshop
This interactive workshop will provide a platform to communicate your research proposal or protocol. Participants will receive constructive feedback and guidance from a panel of expert researchers and grant reviewers that can help guide and determine the next steps to undertake the research project. Upon registration participants will be encouraged to submit an abstract on their research proposal or protocol. Up to six FPM Fellows attending the workshop will be selected to present their research projects for peer review by the panel and audience regarding the validity and feasibility of the proposed research. There will be opportunities for participants to become a collaborator/recruitment site.


Cardiac Arrest Workshop for FANZCAs (offsite at Auckland Hospital)
This workshop is one of the mandatory emergency response activities for ANZCA and FPM CPD program. It includes simulation activities which aim to ensure that anaesthetists have recognised training to manage a cardiac arrest.

There will be social activities during the meeting if you wish to attend.

Welcome reception, Friday evening
The welcome reception will be held at Pullman Auckland. Enjoy a welcome drink with your colleagues after the first day's sessions. This function is included in your registration, however, please indicate your attendance at the time of registering.

Meeting dinner, Saturday evening
The Saturday evening dinner will take place at the Quarterdeck at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, with stunning views of Auckland harbour. Spaces are limited so book in early. The cost to attend the dinner is NZ$161 per person. Please make sure you indicate your attendance at the time of registering.

Non-members of ANZCA/FPM can now register online too. Once you have completed your registration you will be provided with a college ID number and prompted for a password. This will allow you to register online for future meetings as well. 

We encourage all delegates to register online. If you are having any difficulties with registration, please contact the events team. 

Registration will include welcome reception; all lunches, morning and afternoon teas. Tickets to the dinner and additional guest tickets for social functions can be purchased for your guests.

We’re committed to reducing the environmental impact of the conference. We are incorporating a holistic approach that includes but is not restricted to, areas such as reducing written materials and reducing the use of plastics and nonbiodegradable materials.  

At the meeting, we will utilise digital signage where possible. If printed signage is required, we ensure it is printed on material that is or can be recycled.  

The conference name tags, bamboo lanyards including the metal fasteners, will be recycled.

We will work with the healthcare industry exhibitors and sponsors to reduce their environmental impact – including eliminating single use flyers, brochures and signage and recycling all packaging where possible and consider what they as a company are bringing into the venue. We also request they take all items and material back to their office.

The 2024 FPM Spring meeting has opportunities across all three CPD categories:

Category 1: Practice evaluation 

• Reviewing performance ‘Cultural safety’ activity 

Category 2: Knowledge and skills

• Lectures/plenary sessions under ‘Learning sessions’ 
• Workshops and small group discussions under ‘Short format learning’ activity 

Category 3: Emergency responses 

• Where the workshop states that its satisfies an Emergency response CPD requirement, it has been recognised as suitable to be claimed as an emergency response activity, such as ASBD or CICO

If you're not a member of our CPD program
Delegates who are not participants of the ANZCA and FPM CPD Program should check with their respective colleges/CPD home regarding CPD allocations. Post-event, you may request an electronic ‘certificate of attendance’ for the 2024 FPM Spring meeting to use as CPD evidence from the Events team.
