Consultant anaesthetist - Ballarat, Victoria

Dr Hock Tan is a consultant anaesthetist currently based in Ballarat, Victoria. He has had the privilege of working in many of the tertiary hospitals in Melbourne prior to having overseas experience during his fellowship year in the UK and Canada. He had a wonderful time working at the Royal Darwin Hospital in the Northern Territory on returning to Australia in 2007.

Hock enjoys a mix of private and public work with a wide case mix including obstetrics and paediatric anaesthesia. He is involved in airway teaching and have been a member of the executive committee of the ANZCA Airway SIG from 2010-2017, an instructor at the Airway Management Academy and is a member of the ANZCA Airway Leads Network.

Hock's special interest in airway management is the promotion of awake fibreoptic intubation with good airway topicalisation. He introduced the use of the De Vilbiss atomiser in the delivery of airway anaesthesia in Australia after his fellowship in Vancouver. Royal Darwin Hospital was the first hospital in Australia to use this technique in 2007.
