We are saddened by the passing of former ANZCA President Dr Richard (Dick) Willis AM. We send our condolences to his former colleagues, friends and family.
Dr Dick Willis received his FANZCA in 1992 and was ANZCA president from 2002-2004.
He was recognised for having a deep work ethic and staying on hand until the job was done. Dr Willis was heavily involved with the college for many years and was part of numerous committees and groups. He was a valued member of the college community.
From 1984-1990 Dr Willis was a supervisor of training at Flinders Medical Centre. He was on the panel of examiners from 1985-1997 as well as a member of the Final Examination Committee (Anaesthesia) from 1991-1997 and Chairman of Examinations from 1993-1997. During this time he was also the Annual Scientific Meeting Officer (and convenor/chairman of the ASM Committee).
He was an ANZCA councillor from 1992-2004, including ANZCA President from 2002-2004.
After Dr Willis’ time on council, he was a director of professional affairs from 2009-2012.
In 2015 he was awarded AM in the Australia Day Honours for significant service to medicine in the field of anaesthesia.
