Dr Richard Walsh

Dr Richard Walsh

General anaesthetist - Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH).

Dr Richard Walsh is a full-time general anaesthetist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH).  He was intimately involved with the initial feasibility pilot at the RAH for Advanced Recovery Room Care (ARRC) in 2019.  Richard has a regular clinical assignment to ARRC which has grown into a 10-bed unit caring for moderate risk post operative patients from a variety of surgical specialities.

Richard is a keen advocate for the utilization of bedside trans thoracic echo in this setting.  His initial tertiary education was in Physiotherapy (Auckland) and Exercise Science (UCT, South Africa) both of which provide some useful insights to the rehabilitative aspects of perioperative care.

Richard is a keen cyclist with several self-supported multi day events under his belt and he also competes in age group road and gravel events.  However, due to his propensity to unintentionally part company with his bike he is considering a transition to fly fishing!
