ANZCA Educators Program (AEP)
Elevate how you educate with the ANZCA Educators Program.
This is an interactive five module course, delivered over 1.5 days, designed to equip anaesthetists and faculty of pain medicine specialists with the knowledge and skills to be competent clinical teachers.
Overview
We have recently undertaken a review to ensure the program is in line with current medical education theory.
It is available to all fellows, specialist international medical graduates and trainees (other than introductory trainees). The course is delivered in locations around Australia and New Zealand.
The course includes pre-course reading and a post course activity.
Five core modules
Planning effective learning and teaching
Focuses on the core elements required to plan and deliver effective learning and teaching experiences with emphasis on psychological safety, needs assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection.
Facilitating learning in clinical settings 1
Enables the participants to apply tools to facilitate learning in the clinical setting, consider utilising planned and opportunistic learning, concepts related to teaching a technical skill and adapting teaching and learning in a variety of clinical settings.
Facilitating learning in clinical settings 2
Delves into feedback and clinical supervision. The feedback section looks at models for an effective feedback conversation and opportunity to apply the theoretical concepts into practice. The clinical supervision section explores the factors required for effective clinical supervision and provides opportunity to consider relevant supervision based on clinical scenarios.
Assessment and evaluation in medical education
Provides an overview of the key concepts in assessment, focuses on WBAs as learning tools and relationship with the feedback conversation and considers evaluation of the learning and teaching encounter from a learner and teacher perspective.
Teaching in non-clinical settings
Enables the participants to actively engage in a variety of approaches to engage small groups of learners in interactive learning and teaching experiences including a small group discussion. Exploration of approaches to working with different participant behaviours that may disrupt leaning in a group will be covered.
