ANZCA Course in Perioperative Medicine supervisor information
ANZCA Course in Perioperative Medicine supervisors will plan and facilitate the participant's clinical immersion experience at a hospital.
Clinical immersion supervisors are graduates of the Chapter of Perioperative Medicine (ANZCA) and have completed the supervisor induction workshop (see below).
Supervisors may be assigned up to three participants to supervise and will spend approximately one hour per week engaging in supervisor duties. The main role of the supervisor is to facilitate and coordinate the experience of each participant completing a unit of study in the clinical setting. They will arrange and coordinate clinical immersion experiences and facilitate assessment opportunities for participants.
Supervisors will also have an opportunity to be involved in the facilitation of participant workshops, providing a valuable link between online learning and clinical immersion experiences.

New supervisor onboarding process

Anyone with the GChPOM qualification can attend the published supervisor workshop dates (even if they are not working at a clinical immersion site).

After the workshop, a supervisor agreement will be sent to any attendees who are at current hospital clinical immersion sites and also to those at sites onboarding for the next trimester.

Once a copy of the signed agreement is received, the supervisor can assist as a delegated supervisor in the current trimester and/or be assigned a participant for the next trimester.

The term of the supervisor agreement is for 3 years and can be renewed for a further two terms.

When a new clinical immersion site is approved all GChPOM listed as working at the hospital will receive an email to encourage them to contribute to the clinical immersion experience of participants as a supervisor.
Supervisor introductory workshop
ANZCA will host introductory workshops for all new supervisors, providing an overview of the supervisor role, information on the course curriculum, navigating the online platform, planning participant clinical immersion experiences and conducting assessments.
