In 2024, ANZCA and the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) made strong progress in developing a Dual Training Pathway which will streamline dual training in anaesthesia and intensive care medicine.
As an update, the following milestones were achieved in the project:
- Commitment from both colleges to only mandate one primary/first part examination in dual training.
- Development of a Dual Training Pathway Guidance Document to inform prospective dual trainees of potential areas for overlap.
- Confirmation that a combined provisional fellow/transition year role is achievable and permissible.
In 2025, attention will shift focus to implementation of the dual training pathway. To support onboarding of current trainees, ANZCA and CICM require your details and training status. Please assist us by completing registering your details here.
We’ll be communicating with members more frequently as the project nears the end stages and will publish further resources and information on our website.
We understand trainees may have specific questions about their training and what it will look like as a dual trainee on the pathway. As the project is nearing completion, both colleges will be able to start answering these questions as trainees are onboarding to the pathway.
General questions can always be sent to [email protected]. See our FAQs page for more information.
