Seeking faculty fellows, new fellows and trainees to join committees

The Faculty of Pain Medicine is seeking expressions of interest from fellows, new fellows and trainees for the below committee roles.
In addition to these specific roles, we have opportunities for trainees to join committees both in education and professional affairs committees.
FPM Safety and Quality Officer
The Safety and Quality Committee is the key adviser in advancing ANZCA’s mission to serve the community by fostering safety and high-quality patient care in anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and pain medicine through promoting professional standards and patient safety. The committee:
- Monitors and evaluates safety and quality information.
- Oversees developing and reviewing of standards and guidelines to promote and improve patient outcomes, while recognising jurisdictional variation.
- Reviews, and determines the suitability of, externally developed clinical guidelines and standards for endorsing by ANZCA.
- Reviews, consults, and advises on submissions and advise governments, health authorities and other external bodies.
- Advises on identifying, collecting, analysing, interpreting, and disseminating perioperative data, and key safety and quality messages arising from these.
- Advises on collecting, interpreting, and disseminating perioperative incidents and associated key safety and quality messages.
- Oversees the Mortality and Perioperative Allergy sub-committees
The committee meets at least three times a year. Meetings may be held face-to-face in Melbourne and/or electronically.
The FPM representative on the Safety and Quality Committee brings a pain medicine perspective to committee discussions, contributes pain medicine expertise to the development of standards and advice and provides reports to the FPM Professional Affairs Executive Committee on the work of the Safety and Quality Committee. The FPM PAEC provides guidance and is a source of support for the FPM Safety and Quality Officer. There are usually four FPM PAEC meetings each year which occur over videoconference which the FPM Safety and Quality Officer is invited to. While not a requirement of the role, advice has historically been that this role might be more appealing to SPMPs who are also anaesthetists given that much of the content being discussed at the Safety and Quality Committee is anaesthesia focused.
FPM representative on ANZCA Global Development Committee
The Global Development Committee oversees ANZCA's global development initiatives and reports to the ANZCA Professional Affairs Executive Committee. The committee:
- Provides advice to ANZCA PAEC on policy regarding support for training and continuing professional development in anaesthesia and pain medicine in low-middle income countries (in particular, Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Islands and South-East Asia).
- Develops, oversees and/or implements initiatives in line with the committee’s strategic priorities in training, capacity building and continuing professional development in anaesthesia and pain medicine in low-middle income countries (in particular, Papua New Guinea, the Pacific Islands and South-East Asia).
The Global Development Committee will meet at least two times per year, face-to-face during the Annual Scientific meeting and/or by videoconference.
The FPM representative on the Global Development Committee brings a pain medicine perspective to committee discussions and provides reports to the FPM Professional Affairs Executive Committee on the work of the Global Development Committee. The FPM PAEC provides guidance and is a source of support for the FPM Global Development Representative. There are usually four FPM PAEC meetings each year which occur over videoconference which the FPM Global Development Representative is invited to.
FPM representative on the Gender Equity Subcommittee
The college strongly endorses gender equity because of its ethical, social, and economic benefits to our fellows, trainees, specialist international medical graduates (SIMGs), and the broader community. The Gender Equity Sub-committee (GESC) meets quarterly and reports its activities and initiatives to the ANZCA Professional Affairs Executive Committee (PAEC).
The committee delivers and regularly reviews the college’s gender equity action plan including the development of resources and activities ensuring currency of activities and evaluation
The FPM representative on the Gender Equity Subcommittee brings a pain medicine perspective to committee discussions and ensures that the activities of the subcommittee are inclusive of specialist pain medicine physicians.
The FPM PAEC provides guidance and is a source of support for the FPM representative on the Gender Equity Subcommittee. There are usually four FPM PAEC meetings each year which occur over videoconference which the FPM representative on the Gender Equity Subcommittee is invited to.
FPM representatives on the ePPOC Clinical and Advisory Committee (CMAC)
ePPOC facilitates the collection of standardised data from pain management services, analyse and report these data, use the data for benchmarking, and promote research into areas of importance in pain management.
The ePPOC Clinical and Management Advisory Committee (CMAC) provides strategic and clinical guidance to ePPOC. CMAC meetings provide a forum for the discussion of issues relevant to ePPOC and are a mechanism for the provision of guidance to ePPOC on matters relating to policy, data, reporting, research and benchmarking. More details on the program are available on their website.
Up to four meetings are held annually. Three of these will be held via videoconference and one in-person meeting.
The program is managed by the University of Wollongong as an initiative of the Faculty of Pain Medicine and was established in 2013 with funding from the NSW Ministry of Health.
The FPM representative to ePPOC will also be a member of the FPM Research Committee which meets up to four time a year via videoconference and has an annual in-person planning day.
This role would suit a fellow who has an interest in expanding their research profile.
New fellow representative to the FPM Examination Committee
The Examination Committee reports to Board via the Training and Assessments Executive Committee on resolutions, policy and procedures relating to the governance of examinations within the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) training program. Its role is to develop and oversee the implementation of coordinated, accountable and auditable processes in the conduct of FPM examinations.
The Examination Committee are seeking expressions of interest from new fellows within three years of admission to FPM fellowship via completion of the FPM training program to join the committee as the new fellow representative.
The new fellow representative is an important member of this committee and will bring the perspective of candidates to discussions of the committee.
