FPM turns 25!

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM).

The Faculty of Pain Medicine’s 25-year anniversary was celebrated in style with an incredible Spring Meeting in Adelaide complemented by a celebratory dinner at Penfolds Magill Estate. Our trainees and new fellows were inspired by the trailblazers who defined pain medicine and created a medical speciality that still leads the world.

FPM fellows honored the faculty by contributing to a Geoffrey Kaye Museum online exhibition which looks at four key themes -  ‘Beginnings’, ‘Defining the speciality’, ‘Impact and influence’ and ‘The future’. This is a unique record of the establishment of pain medicine as a speciality in Australia and New Zealand. 

Additionally, commemorative glassware specially designed by Mon Verre is available for purchase.

Following these celebrations, oral histories from two foundation fellows have been released. Dr Gretel Davidson spoke with Dr Penelope Briscoe, AM and Professor Pamela Macintyre about their careers in pain medicine and how FPM has evolved over the past 25 years. These bite-sized interviews provide an excellent insight into the profession as well as the impacts on patients and where the specialty is heading.

The faculty continues to evolve through the determination of its fellowship. There is no doubt we will reflect with pride over new achievements in another 25 years.
